In this episode, we speak with Ryan McGinnis, a PhD research student at the University of Michigan. We met Ryan at the International Sports Engineering Association conference this summer in Lowell, Massachusetts, where he presented some of his work on baseballs. Using the latest accelerometers, Ryan created a chargeable system that fits inside a baseball to track the ball’s motion. As a training aid or research tool, it’s a pretty cool, well conceived and developed bit of equipment. Ryan tells us about the project and potential future for such technologies. You can read a paper he wrote on the topic at this link.
